The Philippines takes pride in its Filipino talents, especially the singers who make a name for themselves not only in the Philippines but also around the world. Here is the list of the Top 10 Best Female Singers of 2009. They will be surely be remembered for their talent and the pride they have given to the Philippines.

Regine Velasquez


Regine Velasquez, known as Asia's Songbird is not only a Filipino singer, but is also an actress, TV host, record producer, fashion designer, stage director, and print and commercial model. Her album Low Key was the first album that turned platinum in 2009. Regine is the only Filipino singer who has sold 300,000 album copies in Asia and is the only Filipina who has record sales of 5 million copies. Her docu-biography shown in 2009, "Roots To Riches", featured her success story.

Charice Pempengco


Charice Pempengco the teenage Filipina singer, who became an Internet sensation, now uses the name Charice. After performing and receiving standing ovations in The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and The Oprah Winfrey Show, she has had guest-performances in concerts of Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, and in David Foster’s international concert tours, Hit Man: David Foster & Friends. David Foster currently mentors Charice towards become an international superstar. She performed her first Philippine solo concert in June 2009 and released her first American single, Note to God, in May 2009, that has debuted #44 on Billboard’s, Hot 100 chart. Charice has a role in the movie, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and is set to release her first English album in January 2010.

One of the most awarded Filipina singers is Kyla. Dubbed as the Philippine’s "R&B Princess", she is the only local female artist who has won at the MTV Video Music Awards, as the 2001 MTV Southeast Asian Viewers Choice. In November 2009, her album Heart 2 Heart received a Gold Record status and will be released in Indonesia and Malaysia. She did a special performance with Jay-R at the MYX Music Awards '09.

Sarah Geronimo

Sarah Geronimo has become one of the most respected Filipino artists who earned a name for herself around the world. In the Philippines alone, her record sales have reached more than 450,000 copies, making her indeed a "Record Breaker". Sarah’s first solo Christmas album, Your Christmas Girl, released in October 2009, has reached Platinum status, and so has her 6th studio album, “Music and Me”, just after 1 month in the market. Aside from her record breaking record sales, she has also broken movie ticket sales records for her movies released in 2009.

Jonalyn Viray

Jonalyn Viray is the 1st winner of the Pinoy Pop Superstar local talent show in the Philippines. She is called the “Soul Princess of the Philippines” because of her ability to for vocal belting and for singing in a whistle pitch. The youngest of the three members, she sings soprano and is the lead vocalist in the girl group La diva, who sang the Philippine National Anthem during the fight of Manny Pacquiao vs Cotto.

Yeng Constantino

Yeng Constantino is a preppy-rocker who has built a name for herself as a singer, songwriter and host, after becoming the first “Grand Star Dreamer” in the Pinoy Dream Academy competition. Her album containing seven original compositions reached Gold Record status in just two weeks, became Platinum after a month, and reached a 3x Platinum Record status, after several months of its release. Yeng has won multiple awards, including: Best Female Artist of 2009 from the Digital Music Awards, and Album of the Year, from the 1st WAKI OPM Awards, for 2009 for her 2nd album Journey.

Aicelle Santos Aicelle Santos is dubbed the "Ballad Princess” for her ability to sing Filipino Soul, Pop, R&B, and Jazz. She is also a singer-songwriter and pianist, and has earned the title as the First Undefeated Pinoy Pop Superstar, for having won eight-straight wins in GMA 7's Pinoy Pop Superstar. Her achievements include winning a major award in the Astana Music Festival in Kazakhstan, and currently is one of the trios in the all girl group, La Diva.

Rachelle Ann Go

Rachelle Ann Go’s father predicted she was destined to be a star. She released her fourth and fifth album and held her 2nd major concert in 2009. She also held major concerts with Jed Madela, True Champions: The Best Meets the Very Best. Her Her awards for 2009 include: Music Radio Awards Best Song by a Female performer, and Pinoy Music Awards Song of the Year: "Honestly"; Revival Album of the Year, and Female Star of the Night, at the 1st PMPC Star Awards for Music and a Gold Record award for her Rachelle Ann Falling In Love album.

Lani Misalucha

Lani Misalucha currently performs in the US. MTV Asia named her, Asia's Nightingale, and is known to perform jazz, pop, rock, rhythm and blues, soul, and operatic arias. Her series of US concerts held with the lead vocalist of Journey, Arnel Pineda was very successful that she has earned the name "New Siren of the Strip”. She can remarkably imitate the voices of Philippine and international singers, including Regine Valasquez and Jaya almost perfectly.

Toni Gonzaga

Toni Gonzaga is famous for being one of the lead female hosts in the Pinoy Big Brother series. She is also a singer, actress, recording star, commercial model and concert performer. She has launched two music albums and completed concert tours in Canada and the US and has received a gold award for her 3rd album. She won as the Best Female Talk Show Host at the 23rd PMPC Star Awards for Television, and an Anak TV seal Makabata Roster award.
